In some parts of the country, traditional yellow and black road signs are being replaced by newer chartreuse (yellow-green) ones. I have used the retired signs in some of my recent works.
The art in this group is signs re-purposed as driveway markers and house markers. They all have a reflective component that is illuminated when car headlights shine on them at night. All of them can be installed outside and are weatherproof.
The designs on the road signs are intentionally kept simple. With the thought that if one day they become permanently installed beside a road (as art), they might be viewed at a high speed of travel. They would be unexpected in an otherwise familiar or boring setting, causing unexpected alarm (and then, hopefully, delight). Too much detail would be pointless. They are whimsical.
The retired road signs have two lives; one as artistic signage, and one as a photograph. Once photographed in situ (see photographs), the signs themselves are purely academic. The true art is the photograph, not the sign.
