Join Drekkia Morning, Arts in Education Programs manager, at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 9, to discover new and established artists and arts programs in Arkansas. This week’s episode will feature Amy Morris.
Amy Morris is a self-taught artist from the Arkansas Delta. Morris is known for her fiery imagination and a strong calling for art, which has fueled her diverse types of artworks.
Morris is experienced in acrylics, oils, graphite and charcoal media. Morris possesses a strong sense of artistry and a unique way of thinking in her art. She is best known for her emotional portraits that capture the depth of the eyes and gaze and the vibrant spirit of each subject.
Morris garnered her first art award at 7 years old and has continued to push herself in the field of arts every since. She draws her inspiration from her personal life tragedies, events and environment.
"For me, painting is my way to project pieces of my soul for the world to see, to express emotion and to bring a sense of self peace when viewing," Morris said.
As a stay at home mom, artist and art instructor, Morris uses her talents to encourage and provide for her family. Her artwork is included in numerous private art collections throughout the U.S. and has been selected for solo and group exhibits. Her work has appeared in newspapers and children's coloring books.
