Entries are being accepted! The Arkansas Arts Council, an agency of Arkansas Heritage, is accepting entries for the 2027 Small Works on Paper juried art exhibition through Aug. 23. Arkansas artists are invited to submit work online at ArkansasArts.org. Work must be on paper. Artists may submit up to three works of art on paper for a fee of $15 for the first entry, $20 for two entries or $25 for three entries. The exhibition is open to all artists who reside in Arkansas and are 18 years old or older. Small Works on Paper is a competitive, touring art exhibition featuring artwork no larger than 18 x 24 inches. An out-of-state, independent juror selects up to 40 pieces to tour the state. All submitted works must have been completed within the last two years. The traveling nature of the exhibit offers a unique opportunity for Arkansans to engage with high-quality visual art close to home, whether in large cities or smaller towns. With stops at universities, art centers and cultural institutions, the exhibit fosters deeper appreciation for the arts and supports ongoing cultural enrichment statewide. Artists whose work is selected for the exhibition will be notified in October 2026. The 2027 exhibition will open in January at the South Arkansas Arts Center in El Dorado with an opening reception set for 5:30 p.m. on Jan. 14, 2027. The tour will then make stops in Arkadelphia, Alma, Fayetteville, Van Buren, Searcy, Mountain View and Forrest City. The 2027 juror is mixed-media artist and educator Kathy Liao, of Kansas City, Mo. She is the recipient of various recognitions, including the 2023 Joan Mitchell Foundation Fellowship, 2022 21c KC Artadia Award, 2020 Charlotte Street Foundation Visual Artist Award, and a public art commission for the new Kansas City International Airport. As a mentor and educator, Liao has lectured and presented at multiple institutions and conferences nationwide. Her work was shown in galleries and museums in Boston, New York, Los Angeles, Seattle, and Kansas City, among others. She is the organizational services program officer at Mid-America Arts Alliance.
