The Arkansas Arts Council is pleased to announce the recipients of the 2027 Small Works on Paper touring exhibition and its opening reception, happening 5:30-7:30 p.m. Jan. 14, 2027, at the South Arkansas Arts Center in El Dorado.
This year, 37 artists representing 40 pieces of artworks, and from across Arkansas, were selected as part of the touring exhibition. Artists will be celebrated during the kick-off opening reception event, which includes free artist talks and refreshments.
The judge for this year's show reviewed about 300 submissions to select this year’s exhibition, which will tour to nine locations throughout the year.
The 2027 Small Works on Paper will be on view Jan. 5-29 at the South Arkansas Arts Center before moving to Ouachita Baptist University. Please visit ArkansasArts.org for a full schedule.
Now in its 40th year, Small Works on Paper is the only state-run, juried, visual arts exhibition showcasing artwork by Arkansas-based artists. The artwork can be no larger than 18-by-24 inches. All sale proceeds benefit the artists.
This year’s entries were juried by Kathy Liao, a mixed-media artist based in Kansas City, Mo. As a Taiwanese American artist, Liao looks for patterns and repetitions that weave through families’ experiences. Liao is the recipient of recognitions, including the 2023 Joan Mitchell Foundation Fellowship, 2022 21c KC Artadia Award, 2020 Charlotte Street Foundation Visual Artist Award, and a public art commission for the new Kansas City International Airport. Her work has been exhibited in Boston, New York, Los Angeles, Seattle, Kansas City, and many other cities nationally and internationally. She is the organizational services program officer at Mid-America Arts Alliance.
