Holloway Memorial Natural Area is representative of the once extensive hardwood flatwoods that occurred along terraces of the Grand Prairie of eastern Arkansas (Mississippi Alluvial Plain). These flatwoods forests typically varied with the topography and underlying soils, and included both bottomland and upland hardwood tree species. Prairie mounds are also scattered throughout the area, suggesting that it was once prairie thousands of years ago. Fee title is held by Prairie County.
