As America celebrates 250 years, we are taking lines from the Declaration of Independence as inspiration. In September, we will examine the phrase “The consent of the governed” with a focus on the 1840 presidential election between William Henry Harrison and Martin Van Buren. How did government work, or not, in Antebellum Arkansas? How did politics affect the development of the State? Visitors can take on the role of an early resident of Arkansas as they find work, sell resources, buy goods and get involved with politics!
