My art is conceived on positive and negative space portraying an erotic, spiritual nature, provoking thoughts of sensuality and passion.
Quoting from Lao-Tzu’s book “TAOTEACHING”
Thirty spokes converge on a hub
But it’s the emptiness
That makes a wheel work.
Pots are fashioned from clay
But it’s the hollow
That makes a pot work
Windows and doors are carved for a house
But it’s the spaces
That make a house work
Existence makes something useful
But nonexistence makes it work
Challenging myself with the perception of negative space, illuminating the duality of human nature; the presence of vice and value, pure love and pure
hate. I will articulate these concepts, using dimensional canvases and opposing images in my sculpture.
My inspirations come from primitive art, fertility figures, African and Native American mask and French author, Charles Baudelaire, and his book of
poems, titled Flowers of Evil. The dichotomy of sensual pleasure and malevolent allure depicted through evil flowers mirrors the struggle
within every human.
