As a Native American (Lenni Lenape) artist and scholar, I choose to use a variety of mixed media and encaustic (melted wax) to engage mutiple notions of place and space as a transcultural experience - a meeting place of cultural histories and contemporary ideas. My most recent work hopes to raise questions about Native American stereotypes and spiritual experiences - injustices brought on by British Conquest and spiritual ideas related to Chicken Dancers. As a mixed-media artist, foundational to my work is the notion of "story" which re-emphasizes the conflictual and the consensual in society where cultural experiences converge. My hope is that my work causes people to investigate the history of where they live and its first inhabitants, giving voice to the past through the present.
