Arts On Tour

The Arts on Tour roster lists a broad spectrum of Arkansas’s finest solo and ensemble performers, individual visual artists and prepared art exhibitions ready for touring within Arkansas. The online AOT listing facilitates the booking process for arts organizations, festival and event planners, schools, civic organizations and government entities interested in contracting with the artists.

The AOT program is designed to reimburse presenters who showcase Arkansas artists listed on the roster. When an AOT artist negotiates a contract with the presenter, the Arkansas Arts Council typically will subsidize 40 percent of the cost of the event as long as funds are available.

New AOT artists are selected each year through a panel process.

Born during the depths of the Dustbowl and the Great Depression, Western Swing is a joyous gumbo of all great American music styles.

Honky-Tonk, Rockabilly, Rock and Roll, the Bakersfield sound of country music can all be traced to Western Swing.

Western Swing blends Jazz, Dixieland, Blues, Frontier Fiddle music, Big Band Swing, German and Czech Polka’s and Waltzes, Cowboy songs and Mexican mariachi into a danceable hybrid.

The cultural and historic significance, plus the many connections to Arkansas, are some of the reasons why the Western Swing RULES Band was formed in 2017.

“We think all Arkansans should here this joyous music and its many connections to every corner of Arkansas before it’s forgotten.” Bandleader and historian Robert Huston says.

The Western Swing RULES Band has played numerous events and venues from Northwest Arkansas and Eastern Oklahoma to North Texas.

WSR was a headliner for the Cowtown Birthplace of Western Swing Festival in Fort Worth where Western Swing was created. Closer to home they have played the annual Arkansas Governor’s Conference on Tourism, Fort Smith’s sesquicentennial celebration, the 2022 Miss Rodeo Arkansas Coronation Ceremony, the Fayetteville Public Library’s Mountain Street Stage and numerous casinos in eastern Oklahoma.

The Western Swing RULES Band, comprised of multiple Hall of Fame musicians, was a top five finalist for Western Swing Band of the Year 2021 by the Academy of Western Artists.

The Western Swing RULES Band is available year-round for dances, concerts, exhibitions and events for private individuals, weddings or corporate special events and Non-Profit 501(c)3 organizations and philanthropic organizations.
