Ashtyn Barbaree was raised in Fayetteville, Arkansas, a place of stunning beauty where deep roots and family traditions abound. Little did anyone know that this small-town girl would grow up to make music that can be heard from the blinking lights of the big city all the way to international stages. Ashtyn quickly developed her own style while drawing inspiration from her local heritage. She has an interesting and recognizable voice that sets her apart from the pack, lending her folks songs something extra. Ashtyn also became proficient on multiple instruments, including guitar, tenor ukulele, mandolin, bass and piano.
By her late teens, Ashtyn had established herself as a household name in Northwest Arkansas. Many venues began to book her after gaining attention with her impassioned performances and songwriting. She had built up a loyal fanbase within the area by the time she turned 21; this was also when she began to record some of her original songs and perform outside of Northwest Arkansas.
With a life mission to share positivity and keep up with a strenuous tour schedule, Ashtyn landed in Nashville for a recording session with some of Nashville’s finest (David “Fergie” Ferguson, Jeffrey Clemens, Dave Roe, Kenny Vaughan and Michael Rojas) at the reputable studio, The Butcher Shoppe. The self-titled debut EP was released in April 2018 and she started getting recognition from music critics for her unique sound and soulful songs. This brought about her first European tour in Winter 2018 and an invitation for Ashtyn to showcase at Folk Alliance International in Montreal, Canada in February 2019; she represented Arkansas and The House Of Songs at the festival. It was also in 2019 when Ashtyn won a public vote state-wide contest to earn the last spot on Bike Rack Records, giving her the opportunity to record a single at Haxton Studios and be a featured act for numerous events.
2020 brought some unexpected challenges but Ashtyn adapted like many artists did worldwide; she conducted virtual songwriting classes for young musicians, joined forces with organizations to co-host virtual concerts and was featured on virtual festivals (Thriving Roots by Americana Music Association, Yadaloo Festival, NWA Tech Summit, Music Around The Fireplace (Netherlands), etc).
In Fall 2020, she found herself back in Nashville with Jeffrey Clemens, Chris Scruggs, Tommy Hannum, Jacob Campbell and Brook Sutton; this time recording what would become her first full-length album called “Better Luck Next Time” released in Spring 2022.
She saw 2021 reward all of this effort by Arkansas Tourism and state-wide nominations giving her the title of Arkansas State Music Ambassador. Her vulnerable melodies and smokey yet silky voice stand out amongst many, branding a unique style you won’t want to miss as she continues making beautiful music across genres including Americana, country, indie rock and folk. Keep an eye out for future shows or get cozy listening to her latest album “Better Luck Next Time” which is available now!
