Learn the basics of spinning wool on a drop spindle. You’ll experience preparing the wool, spinning the yarn and plying the yarn on both a spindle and spinning wheel. This workshop is designed for novices as well as for those who have some spinning experience but would like to become more familiar with spindles. At the end of the day, you will take home a spindle and fiber to keep practicing at home.

Maryelle Compton has demonstrated cotton and wool spinning at the museum for the past four years. An avid, life-long knitter, she learned to spin twelve years ago and has since experimented with prepared wool, raw fleeces and silk.

Note: bring a sack lunch or snack.
