My goal is to create fun and innovative, hands-on activities that inspire, educate and entertain while reinforcing foundational musical concepts, theories and ideas. My focus in the classroom is creating synergy and showing how music education can be applicable in everyday life. I approach music in a variety of ways designed to address the needs of my participants.
Music Theory and Appreciation
This workshop is aimed at celebrating the “joy” of music and demonstrates how essential music is to our everyday lives.
For those who have dreamed about gaining a deeper appreciation one day tackling the process of learning a new instrument, this workshop is for you!
I will demonstrate in a fun and engaging way how to learn the basics of music theory, and yes, you will walk away knowing how to play a song or approach learning to play musical instruments in a new way! We will remove the veil of intimidation surrounding music and get right down to playing! Dialogue will cover examples of participants’ favorite songs and movies, and there will even be a couple of “surprise” projects that participants will appreciate and be able to take with them throughout their lives.
Digital Audio Recording:
This workshop introduces participants to the basics of audio recording and engineering. Participants should expect to learn how to loop beats and patterns, record vocals, and the art of mixing. We start with basic terminology, examples of previously recorded works, and light introductory applications. Emphasis will be on creative expression and making connections to how music is used as a component for other disciplines such as written and spoken word, and we will explore the role music plays in everyday media. Students can expect to come out of the class with a better conceptual and practical understanding of both the recording process and how it fits in other disciplines. Absolutely no experience necessary!
