When Brian and Terri meet with students they write a song together. They begin by having a student come up with a theme, phrase or lyric that will begin the songwriting process. From there, they find a brave soul who will sing the phrase. With this we receive the melody, tonality, (Major or Minor) and the meter, (in 2 or 3). Students may not, at this point, be able to articulate these musical components, but they can and do use them to communicate musically. As the process continues, students contribute rhyming words and additional phrases. We explore Form using, Verse and Chorus and perhaps even a Bridge. It's great to see the light bulbs going on, and feel the excitement as students contribute their ideas. Not only do they share the experience of the songwriting process, but when the process is finished they can experience the pride of creative accomplishment as they sing their song. The song is then professionally produced in the Kinder's home studio and sent to the school. From there, they bring the studio to the classroom and record students singing their song, leaving them with a professionally produced recording. The songwriting experience exposes students to the Arkansas Educational Framework in both music and literature, (creative writing). Available to conduct teacher workshops.

Brian and Terri Kinder introduce themselves to students and educators by saying they are a Song "Maker-upper". They make up songs and teach the craft of songwriting. Brian is a retired music educator with a Bachelors of Music Education and Masters of Liberal Arts From UALR. Since 2001 he has been on the Arkansas Arts Council roster of Touring Artist performing rollicking good-time concerts for kids. Along with his wife, Terri, they have released ten CD's of original music for kids, receiving national acclaim. They perform hundreds of concerts each year in Arkansas and surrounding states.
