In his first time watching a black and white print come up in the developer, Dan Pierce knew he’d found his passion. He studied photography while in college working on a degree in Journalism, and after graduation worked for several newspapers including 15 years at the Courier in Russellville. During his 20 years as a photojournalist, he won more than 25 press photography awards including a number of 1st Place awards in News, Feature and Sports photography categories. He worked for newspapers in Oklahoma, South Carolina and Arkansas.

Pierce has also been passionate about his photography as art. In the past, his black and white photography was featured in a one-man show at the Arkansas River Valley Arts Center (ARVAC), which included more than 40 pieces. He also taught photography classes at the ARVAC in beginning photography and advanced black and white photography.

Pierce worked for 17 years at Philander Smith College as a publications coordinator doing graphics and photography. He has continued his love for B&W art photography, having made the switch to digital – although he still misses the darkroom.
