An honest artist’s statement might go something like this: A lot of time spent looking and thinking about my work, waiting on the muse and the next opportunity to focus on art work...until it happens. In the meantime, life goes on and it has taken me far from my home state of Arkansas, each new place influencing my mostly realistic style of painting. While living, working and making art in New Mexico, Colorado and Nepal, nothing made me more homesick than hearing music connected to this region. In recognition of that, when I moved back to Little Rock a few years ago, I began entertaining the idea of producing a series of portraits of Arkansas musicians, starting with the six inductees in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame on exhibit. I am currently working on the next installment of the series, Arkansas musicians in the Country Music Hall of Fame, as well as an ongoing series of portraits and landscapes of the Himalayas and the American west and currently a number of Covid themed projects.
