Most of my work is in clay. Much of that work is grounded in function, although my love of playing with form and ideas keeps me from becoming dogmatic. My hope is that the best work has a vitality that transcends our cultural limitations concerning utility and art. Function is about food, drink, cooking, flowers from the garden, and sharing meals with family and friends. Work made to be used and incorporated into the rhythm of daily living can translate well into a pedestal in the gallery, but lacks the proper context. My sculptural work is a way for me to address other issues. These works communicate about relationships between men and women, the stupidity of recent wars and global environmental degradation.
