What I would like to accomplish changes with each project, but a fundamental need to create is present each time. I feel like my world goes a little askew if I go too long without art-making, and when I begin something again I get an overwhelming feeling that all will be right with the world. In these works, one can see the movement as life is celebrated. The orchid, reaching for the sun, has an implication of growth; and the dancer, in a celebratory swing, rejoices. I am influenced by a diverse group; from Edgar Degas' The Little Dancer to Cy Twombley's A Scattering of Blossoms and Other Things, but the common threads are the artworks' movement and the organic lines in the sculptures or paintings. If different materials work nicely together then I am all the happier because I used things from more than one of my influences at once.
