As an artistic and extremely intellectually curious child growing up in rural Arkansas, I often found myself to be an outsider. Because I had little in common with my peers, I was very aware that I would have to form my own identity, and in a way that was minimally influenced by many of those around me. As a result, I became very self-aware and sensitive to details of human personality. When I looked in the mirror, I saw within myself many different roles: that of an artist, an actor, a scholar, a video game nerd, an Italian, an American, an admirer of Japanese culture. I considered myself my own work of art and wanted the reality of my life and personality to match the vision in my head.

As is revealed through the mirror, in life there is reality as well as one’s interpretation of that reality. My art is a constant exploration of the relationship of reality and perception—how they can enhance each other, as well as how they can conflict. Within the same vein, my work particularly explores how one constructs their own identity in the postmodern era and the multiplicity of human personality. Because of the fluid nature of my subject matter, I do not limit myself to one particular medium. I often use some media in a representational way to symbolize reality and other media in a more abstract way to symbolize perception within a single work. I am influenced by artists who have worked in at least a somewhat similar way, including Alex Kanevsky, Alexia Sinclair, and Gerhard Richter.
