Alan Rosenau has a degree in Philosophy from Pomona College. He attended seminary at the Church Divinity School of the Pacific in Berkeley, California, graduating in 1973, the same year of his ordination. He says that he has always
"written/done art work", especially poetry and drawings, seeking to incorporate them into the various seasons of his life -pastor, spouse, father, grandfather, friend. In the 1990's he held solo mixed media exhibits in Hot Springs in benefit of the Potter's Clay shelter for women. He won an International Second Prize from the Haiku Society of Japan. He has published often in local venues. Some of his work has been commissioned by the Catholic Church Diocese of Little Rock.
Somewhat recently, Alan's artwork has emerged into (mostly) "small" works on Paper: (1) a series of "Holy Face Portraits" based on the Shroud of Turin photographic image of Jesus, and (2) a continuing series of letter/numerical symbolic pictures which explore what and how is prayer. These works together provide an accessible, yet also mysterious, presentation of fundamental icons and symbols.
They have employed color and mixed media sub are, signally, an outgrowth of journal writing: thoughts, prayers and (often explored) praxis-the practical use of human expression. How is it for human beings to express their hearts), their Desires for True Life in a world (and worlds) of intensifying hopelessness and dread?
If "Truth is what we are meant to know", might we by turning seriously to Faith be able even to see, then, how Truth manifests (unveils) a reality of "flesh and bone" for real and well loved people. Tomorrow and Today.
