Want to unlock the meaning of the symbols you see on gravestones? Attend this free presentation on cemetery iconography, and your next visit to a cemetery will be much richer.

AHPP Historian Holly Hope will discuss the symbolism of the plants, animals and figures that adorn the graves in Arkansas cemeteries and how the meaning and use have changed over time.

The talk will also include expert guidance on the basic care of gravestones for long-term preservation.

The program will take place on July 11, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at the Amy Sanders Library in Sherwood.
