STEP 2

Application Part 1 - Evaluation of Significance

  • Owners of buildings within historic districts must complete Part 1 of the Historic Preservation Certification Application, the Evaluation of Significance. Once submitted to the SHPO, the application will be forwarded to the National Parks Service to determine if the building is eligible to become a certified historic structure. Property owners with buildings listed on the National Register of Historic Places do not need to complete part 1.
  • Use the “Add Item” option on the application to attach any supplemental or supporting documents related to your application. Please format supplemental photos into a single PDF document, following the National Park Service Electronic File Format Standards and File Naming Conventions”
 

STEP 3

Application Part 2 - Description of Rehabilitation

  • Owners seeking certification of rehabilitation work must complete Part 2 of the Historic Preservation Certification Application. Both the NPS and the IRS strongly encourage owners to apply before they start work.
  • Use the “Add Item” option on the application to attach any supplemental or supporting documents related to your application. Please format supplemental photos into a single PDF document, following the National Park Service Electronic File Format Standards and File Naming Conventions”

 

 

STEP 4

Application Part 3 - Request for Certification of Completed Work

  • Part three of the application should be sent only after the rehabilitation work is completed.
  • Use the “Add Item” option to attach any supplemental or supporting documents related to your application. Please format supplemental photos into a single PDF document, following the National Park Service Electronic File Format Standards and File Naming Conventions”

Amendment/Advisory Determination

  • You will only need to use this part of the application if:
    • NPS has requested additional information for an application
    • You are updating an applicant or contact information
    • You are amending a previously submitted application
    • You are requesting an advisory determination
