On-Camera Acting:
I fully believe that acting, whether it be on stage or in front of a camera, is not just for artists looking to have a career in the world. I’ve seen first-hand how this art form strengthens students’ self-confidence, public speaking skills, and above all else, empathy.
I approach this method by providing students with tools to break down a scene as if preparing for an audition. From there, I have each student perform the piece in front of a camera, as if on a film set. I discuss lighting, technicalities of performing on camera, and bringing their essence to the scene. At the end of the class, the students gather together to watch each others’ tapes and provide feedback. They then perform the scene again and apply the notes they’ve learned.
My objective is for students to not be afraid to get out of their comfort zones. It’s a major feat to be able to put yourself in the spotlight, so to speak, especially in front of your peers. Time and time again I’ve seen their confidence grow from the first take to the final take, into a product they’re proud of.
Audition Technique:
I know all too well how stressful auditions can be, whether they're for a play, an open call for a movie, or even college auditions. While rehearsal is crucial, understanding that auditioning is a different skill is even more imperative. Being able to be handed a scene or monologue and properly dissect it into a cohesive performance can be a challenge without assistance.
I provide students with a foolproof method to help release any stress or confusion that may come with approaching a scene. By using the acronym C.R.E.W.L., students will be able to identify the Character elements, Relationship(s) with other characters, the Event within the scene, the Want (or objective) of their character, and the Levels necessary for making the scene interesting.
Production Assistance
Theatre has always had a special place in my heart. I've been in over 30 stage productions within my career. I know what it takes to put on a successful production from the character development to even the fundraising for ticket sales. If there are local middle schools or high schools that are in need of assistance or a guest director, I would absolutely love to be a part of it.
Growing up, Grace fell in love with the art of acting. At the age of eight, she auditioned for her first community theatre production “The Best Christmas Pageant Ever”. She knew even at that age that this was a world she was meant to be a part of. That intuition led her to be in over 30 stage productions throughout her career. The film industry had always been a fascination for Grace. So much in fact, that passion led her to Los Angeles where she began fulfilling her dream of working in the film industry.
While living in Los Angeles, Grace began her film career working for Casting Director Elizabeth Barnes and graduated from acting conservatory Joanne Baron/D.W. Brown Studio, with an emphasis in Meisner technique. After working on numerous projects such as Netflix's G.L.O.W. and ABC's American Crime, Grace moved to Atlanta in 2017 and began working at Catapult Acting Studios. There, her passion for coaching actors began! Her clients can be seen on hit shows such as Netflix's Wednesday, Netflix's Babysitter's Club, and many more.
Grace has been a member of SAG-AFTRA for the past twelve years and continues to be involved with the film industry locally in Arkansas. Her most recent project includes the ABC News Studios and Hulu docuseries, “At Witt’s End: The Hunt for a Killer”. When she’s not on set or on stage, she is teaching workshops and providing private coaching opportunities to local actors for both theatre and film.
