My artwork is about people. Using a vibrant and expressive cartoony style of 2D drawing and animation, I tell stories about characters, the relationship between people, and how psychology and philosophy are affected by the outside world. While my work can range from serious to comical, often within a single piece, it always boils down to the interaction between people. My current project, an animated short film titled “The mentor,” the story is set in a fantasy world with sentient animal people and magic, but none of those things are what the art is about. Instead it’s the interactions of the characters that are important, and the core story could be told with little changes in a vastly different setting. One common element in my work is visual story telling. I try to find ways to give the viewer information about the world, characters, and story without ever needing to use words. As a result of this, “The Mentor” features no dialogue and is told through body language, expressions, and other visual clues. My piece “Contrasting Hearts” is an experimental piece that was an attempt to tell a sequential story with as simple of information as possible. Contrast is another common theme in my work, whether it be a contrast in themes, personalities, visual styles, or even just between expectations and what is delivered. Throughout my time as an artist I have used 2D digital drawing and animation programs with which program I used being determined by the specifications of the project I am working on.
