I love making things and have ever since I was young. I learned all sorts of crafts, etc. from books I got from the library, from looking at pictures in National Geographic and from just goofing around making stuff. Before I was out of High School I taught myself hammering steel, hot and cold, silver soldering jewelry out of silver, making things out of copper, spinning and weaving and braided, sewn and laced leather amongst other things. In later years I wished I had had art lessons and taken art, as when I was young I had no concept of design or art, but my parents thought I'd either be a violin teacher or a scientist, and I became neither, though I still am a musician on a variety of stringed instruments, and I studied mainly music and science. I do custom iron and steel work of all kinds, work some in other metals, and am involved somewhat in my wife's fiber arts.
