I’m a generative artist, which means that I make art with computer code. My work focuses on exploring the space between the hand-drawn and the computer-drawn. I use Processing and JavaScript to build my programs, and I design algorithmic brushes to complete each piece. My art is the result of highly-ordered chaos. I write organized instructions to direct my work, but then I introduce random parameters so that the computer can try out an infinite variety of results. When I’ve completed a program, I curate through as many iterations as needed to find the image that most speaks to me. Once I’m ready to bring a piece from the digital realm into the analog, I prepare it for digital silkscreen printing using a Risograph printer. Just like traditional silkscreen, the colors are printed one at a time.
