As an artist, I focus on the parallels between nature and family. Common themes include: life cycles, generational connections, and memory reconstruction. I am a process based artist who loves to experiment, upcycle, and layer. As a result, much of my work has multiple components created with multiple techinques and materials. It is characterized by pops of color, use of texture, inclusion of found objects, and layered symbolic meanings. My current body of work is part art and part mad science. I use cyanotype to capture botanicals. Cyanotype is an old photographic printing process used by engineers to make blueprints the rough out the 20th century. After growing or foraging for plant specimens, I experiment with chemicals and sunlight to create a cyanotype. Later, I layer them with other media to produce works full of color and texture. Each work is a nod to my family memories of gardening; each botanical is a symbolic message waiting to be decoded.
