I can never get enough of the beauty I find in nature. . . the sunlight drifting through leaves to highlight some small flower that otherwise may have gone unnoticed . . . the exquisite harmony of a subtle color palette that blends into a beautiful composition . . . all accompanied by birdsong and fresh air. Painting for me is an emotional response to my surroundings and an attempt to capture a fleeting moment in time to share with others who may not have the privilege to experience it firsthand. Birds have become my main focus recently. Most of my works up to now have focused on closeup portraits of individual wild bird species, but I am beginning to create stories about birds in larger formats. These show more of the character of the species, depicting their activities in their environment and even some interactions with other creatures such as squirrels.
