Cost: The camp is free, but registration is required. Registration forms may be picked up at the Delta Cultural Center.
Suggested Age Group: Ages 6 - 13.
Morning sessions, which run until noon, will feature musicians Ric Patton and Terry "Big T" Williams. Attendees participate in hands-on-instruction in guitar, harmonica, and songwriting.
Afternoon sessions consist of puppeteer Karen Konnerth who leads the Zora Neale Hurston Puppet Project. Working in small groups, students will reinterpret stories by crafting rod puppets from fabric and cardboard.
Camp Agenda Monday thru Friday:
- 9:00 AM to 10:30 AM - Ric Patton
- 10:30 AM to 12:00 PM - Big "T" Williams
- 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM - Lunch
- 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM - Karen Konnerth
Snacks will also be served and there are fun breaks during each day.
The week will culminate in a final showcase where blues music and folklore storytelling come together, as participants bring to life what they learned. This performance is scheduled for 2 p.m. on August 1. An awards ceremony will also take place that day.
