A Soldier’s Story explores the service, sacrifice, and experiences of African Americans in the United States military, with a particular focus on the men and women of Arkansas. Spanning generations of military service—from the Civil War and the western frontier through the World Wars, Korea, Vietnam, and the modern armed forces—the exhibition examines what it meant to serve a nation while continuing to fight for full citizenship and equality at home.

Through personal artifacts, photographs, documents, uniforms, and firsthand stories, A Soldier’s Story moves beyond the battlefield to illuminate the individuals behind the uniform. Their stories reveal courage, duty, resilience, family, and the lasting impact of military service on Black communities.

Together, these histories honor those who served while placing their experiences within the larger story of African American life, citizenship, and the continuing pursuit of freedom.

The opening reception is Tuesday, November 10 from 4:00-7:00 PM. Refreshments will be served and there will be entertainment. The event is free and open to the public, no registration required.
