Thomas Jacques

Interim Director, Delta Cultural Center

Louis Thomas Jordan was an American saxophonist, multi-instrumentalist, songwriter and bandleader who was popular from the late 1930s to the early 1950s. Known as "the King of the Jukebox", he was born July 8, 1908, in Brinkley, Arkansas.

Jordan was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1987 and named an American Music Master of the Hall in 1999. He was also inducted into the Arkansas Entertainers Hall of Fame in 1998 and the Arkansas Black Hall of Fame in 2005. Then in 2018, Louis Jordan was honored with a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award.
U.S. Highway 49 from Brinkley to Marvell is designated the Louis Jordan Memorial Highway.
Stop by the DCC Visitor Center at 141 Cherry Street for a tasty piece of cake to celebrate this historic musician's birthday. Thomas Jacques, King Biscuit Time and Delta Sounds leading man, will be on hand to greet visitors and discuss the importance of Louis Jordan. Like his famous song says, "Let the Good Times Roll."
Event is free and open to everyone. King Biscuit Time is aired Monday thru Friday, from 12:15 pm to 12:45 pm. This event will last from noon to 2 pm.
