Main Street Arkansas has added Alma and Hamburg to its Arkansas Downtown Network. In addition, Calico Rock, a Downtown Network partner since 2020, was recently designated a Main Street Program.

Main Street Arkansas provides technical assistance and design services to help create economic development in the state’s downtown areas. The Main Street approach to downtown revitalization focuses on four areas: design, economic restructuring, organization and promotion.

“Our downtown spaces are the heart of historic Arkansas,” said Marty Ryall, Arkansas Heritage director. “So much of our heritage derives from the stories of our small towns, and we are happy to bring Main Street Arkansas’s expertise to all of their preservation efforts.”

Among the services and benefits Arkansas Downtown Network cities receive are access to Main Street Arkansas’s quarterly trainings, organizational assistance and limited technical assistance from Main Street staff members.

“We are inspired by communities like Alma, Hamburg and Calico Rock, who make the commitment to historic preservation and placemaking,” said Greg Phillips, director of Main Street Arkansas. “We are excited to partner with these downtown districts to assist in revitalization and to highlight what makes them special.”
