Based on our recent poll, creative
minds tend to struggle with a little procrastination. Here’s our non-scientific ideas to break that cycle and go-art! (Yes, we used go-art as a verb.)
1. Write down your top three goals and tape it where you can see it daily. This is a total Emmitt Smith tactic. (You only get one sports reference.)
2. We know you’re cleaning the house to avoid your art. Those dishes can wait. In fact, just close the door and not look at those adulting things. If you can’t see it, it’s not there, right?

3. Sometimes leaving the house is the best strategy. You know what coffee shops have? Coffee. Mmmmhmmm.

4.Take a nap. No, seriously, go take a nap. Sleep rejuvenates the brain. (This is actually scientifically proven.)

5. Write yourself a pep-talk letter or leave yourself a pep-talk voice message. Oh, and be nice to future you — that’s why it’s called a pep-talk. Be Jack Handey. (It appears Jack is a little too old-school for a Gif.)
6. Do some “pre-art” before tackling that commissioned piece. You know, the piece you’re struggling with because the colors are off or the photo you are using is terrible or the words are just all wrong. Do some other art, then go back to that piece.

7.Go look at other artists’ work. Reading books, going to museums, going to plays or music events, going to galleries — that all counts. Get inspired by others!

8. Find someone to be a soundboard and tell them what your story is about and why it matters. Flying solo? Record yourself and listen back, then go write. PS. This works for writing art bios too.

9. What music are you listening to? Change that up. Shake, shake, shake it up! (Yeah. We know the actual song lyrics.)

10. Go for a drive. We live in Arkansas, where there are lots of pretty places to drive to. So, take a mini-trip. Travel boosts creativity.
