Music with Roots is a folk music show and educational program that uses a combination of songs, stories, and photos to educate Arkansans about their state's rich cultural heritage. Throughout the course of the program, one or more performers capture the spirit of the music from the Mississippi Delta and the Ozark Mountains, demonstrating old-time rhythm, dance, and host of old-time folk instruments. It's a production sure to captivate the attention of its audience and instill a greater sense of what it means to be from Arkansas.
Born and raised in small-town New England, featured artist Keith Symanowitz forged a deep connection with his family's southern roots at an early age. Having encountered some of America's oldest roots music in his travels across the South, this folksinger and performer has cultivated a sound as unique as his influences, blending the melodies of an old-time Ozark string band with the soulful vocals of a Memphis bluesman.
Dubbed the "Soul Man of the Ozarks", Keith is the 2017 recipient of the 1st place prize at the Bakersville National Folk Music Contest in Mansfield, Missouri and has won a number of local and regional competitions for both music and dance. When he's not playing a revival at a local community church, or performing at festivals and colleges, you can find him in his hometown of Mountain View, Arkansas, nestled in Ozark hill-country where he performs his blend of Americana and Roots music at the Ozark Folk Center State Park for visitors every year.
