My work shows an idea of beauty which is influenced by the Japanese traditional aesthetic idea of Wabi-Sabi and its relevance to the contemporary world. "Wabi-Sabi is the Japanese art of finding beauty in imperfection and profundity in nature, of accepting the natural cycle of growth, decay, and death." In the contemporary world, what we see in nature is not always just elements of nature but also elements of civilization. There are visible elements which are created by humans such as houses, roads, utility poles, and invisible materials like chemicals and radioactive materials as well. I feel that the boundaries of civilization and nature are constantly encroaching on one another and thus influence our views and images of both, and of what we see as nature. To express my aesthetic concept, I layered several images of pictures of both natural and artificial materials to create individual pieces.
