A fabulous addition to the Front Porch Blues Jam and Bash at the Miller Annex, during the historic King Biscuit Blues Festival, will be a symposium on the life of Arkansas musician Johnnie Taylor. This event will feature his daughter Fonda Byrant, along with author Gregory Hasty, and take place at 10 a.m. in the Miller Annex. A book signing will take place immediately after and just before the Front Porch Blues Jam on October 10, 2024.
Johnnie Taylor was both a popular gospel and rhythm and blues singer, known as the "Philosopher of Soul," who had an extensive career that spanned many decades. He was born in Crittenden County, Arkansas in 1934. After being a member of several popular musical groups, he eventually went out on his own and recorded numerous chart toppers. His biggest hit was "Disco Lady" in 1976.
In addition to the symposium on Thursday, October 10, at the Miller Annex, Biographer Gregory Hasty will be located in the DCC Visitor Center on October 11 and 12, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. to sign his book, "I Believe in You: The Incredible Journey of R&B Legend Johnnie Taylor."
