Due to the popularity of the first printing of “Trees, Shrubs, and Woody Vines of Arkansas,” the book is now in its second printing. Published by the Ozark Society Foundation (OSF) in late 2019, this essential Arkansas field guide is an invaluable reference for schools, libraries, outdoor enthusiasts, hikers, hunters, and amateur botanists.
The most comprehensive guide available on the topic, the book was long-awaited as a reference volume for schools, libraries, and individuals interested in conservation, ecology, and natural sciences. With 536 pages, 1,500 color photographs, illustrations, and maps, the first printing of 2,625 books garnered a wide following and quickly sold out. The second printing of 2,000 books is expected to be available for purchase in the near future from the UA Press at www.uapress.com and other booksellers.
The book is co-authored by Botanist and Collections Manager of the University of Arkansas (UA) Herbarium, Jennifer Ogle; Ecologist and Chief of Research for the ANHC, Theo Witsell; and former Director and Curator of the UA Herbarium and Emeritus Professor of biology at the UA, Johnnie Gentry.
Intended to be used outdoors as a field guide or indoors as a reference book, “Trees, Shrubs, and Woody Vines of Arkansas” includes descriptions of 471 woody plants, up-to-date information on species names, ranges, and habitats as well as updated county-level distribution maps, 16 plates of botanical illustrations, and cultural and historical information about the plants and habitats of the state.
