The 2022 AHPP fall Cemetery Conservation Workshop will be held at Oakland Cemetery, 917 S. Detroit Avenue, Russellville, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., on Saturday, October 22, 2022.
The free workshop on the basics of cemetery conservation, featuring instruction by Rusty Brenner of Texas Cemetery Restoration, will address common concerns in preservation and maintenance of cemeteries and offer hands-on training. Attendees are encouraged to participate in cleaning, basic repair, leveling and straightening of gravestones.
Brenner has spent decades working to preserve and maintain funerary architecture across the nation. His meticulous care has saved many grave markers from being lost or replaced.
Through his instruction attendees learn the proper methods to repair and retain a community’s historic ties to the people who were part of the social, cultural and economic formation of the town, state and county.
