The 2022 AHPP fall Cemetery Conservation Workshop will be held at Odd Fellows Cemetery, Woodruff County Road 50, McCrory, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., on Saturday, October 1, 2022.
The free workshop on the basics of cemetery conservation, featuring instruction by Jonathan Appell of Atlas Preservation, will address common concerns in preservation and maintenance of cemeteries and offer hands-on training.
Attendees are encouraged to participate in cleaning, basic repair, leveling and straightening of gravestones.
Appell, of Atlas Preservation in Connecticut, is devoted to repairing the nation’s gravestones. Through his work he has preserved some of the world’s oldest and most fragile markers. Appell believes that every gravestone deserves the same care, and he has spent his life working with cemetery caretakers and family members to ensure that the best techniques are employed in the preservation of burial grounds.
Through his instruction, Arkansans who have attended previous workshops have been able to put his tested techniques to use in their own cemeteries with successful results.
Please plan to attend this important workshop and take part in carrying on the history of these significant sites.
