The Delta Cultural Center is hosting "Hucksters, Dudes & Peddlers: A Holiday Bazaar" in coordination with the exhibit Transforming with Life and Times: Mercantile Stores in the Antebellum and New South Delta. The event will be held along the levee in front of the Cherry Street Pavilion on Friday, Sept. 23, 2022, from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
Featuring historical reenactors, frontier games and a musical performance, the event demonstrates the intricate dynamics of trade and retail from the Arkansas territorial period to the early 20th century. Visitors will encounter and can interact with performers portraying characters from the era, such as a fast talking huckster with a traveling medicine show and other well dressed dudes who began as peddlers and evolved into salesmen. Starting at 1 p.m., a musical performance will mirror the type of performance that merchants of the era employed to attract business during the holidays.
Guests can also tour the corresponding exhibit on display inside the Visitor's Center.
