The Delta Cultural Center would like to invite everyone to the Grand Opening of a new exhibition titled "Expression of the Blues" by Carol Boss at 5:30 pm on October 7, 2021. This is a limited grand opening inside the DCC Visitors Center that will also be streamed via social media. "Expression of the Blues" will be on display October 7, 2021 thru January 24, 2022 and features a thematic collection of portraitures of various blues musicians painted by Carol Boss. These likenesses are painted on vintage ceiling tiles and include King Biscuit Blues Festival regulars like James "SuperChikan" Johnson and Larry McCrary. Boss paints them as emotive of their distinct spirit when performing and situates each piece as reflective of the era the musicians came to prominence with their talents.
Carol Boss will speak about the featured artwork in the exhibition with an online and on-site audience. Visitors will learn of her interaction with and selection of the musicians, the creative process she applies, and the tangible and intangible qualities she seeks to reflect in the completed colorful, intricate faces. Following her formal discourse, blues guitarist and singer, Detroit Johnny of Pine Bluff, will play as guests tour the exhibit. Drinks and light refreshments may be served if public health measures deem permissible.
