The theme for Arkansas Heritage Month 2006 is Arkansas Arts: Discover Our Treasures. During the month of May, Arkansans are invited to celebrate art in all its forms and modes of expression. From performing arts to visual arts to literary arts, Arkansas offers excellence in all.
To celebrate its artistic heritage, one community may honor a local artist. Another community might sponsor a musical or dramatic performance. Schools in the community might sponsor drawing, poetry or photography contests. Entire festivals may be planned around a community and the arts.
Consider how your community has fostered arts or artists. Think of the artists in your community. What are their specialties? Drawing, painting, singing, acting, sculpting? Each artist and each community has a unique story to tell about how the arts have made a contribution in the lives of people and organizations. The possibilities are as broad and varied as your imagination.
Help promote an appreciation for Arkansas arts and artists by planning a Heritage Month event. Arkansas Heritage Month is a time to join with others around the state in featuring our talented artists and their works. Join us as we discover and celebrate our Arkansas treasures.
