The Arkansas Arts Council is seeking submissions from visual artists in Arkansas for the 2016 Small Works on Paper exhibition. Deadline for entries is Friday, July 24, 2015. Entry forms are available here or by calling (501) 324-9766. Now in its 29th year, Small Works on Paper is a competitive visual art exhibition that showcases artwork no larger than 18 x 24 inches by Arkansas artists who are members of the Arkansas Artist Registry. The Arkansas Artist Registry is an online gallery showcasing the artwork of Arkansas artists. Membership to the Arkansas Artist Registry is free and open to all Arkansas artists. The Small Works on Paper exhibition offers Arkansas artists an extraordinary opportunity to showcase their artwork to patrons all over the state. Ten venues across the state host the exhibition, which tours throughout the year. An out-of-state juror selects a maximum of 40 pieces of artwork to tour with the exhibition. Up to $2,000 is available for juror-selected purchase awards, which become part of the Small Works on Paper permanent collection.

Entries will be juried by Kati Toivanen, professor and associate dean for undergraduate programs in the College of Arts & Sciences at the University of Missouri- Kansas City (UMKC), where she has been teaching since 1992. Born and raised in Finland, Toivanen holds a master of fine arts degree from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Her teaching focuses are digital imaging, computer multi-media and professional practices for artists. She is also an active artist with work exhibited nationally and abroad.

Arkansas artists may enter up to three works of art on paper for a fee of $10 per entry or $25 for three entries. Works must have been completed within the last two years. Artists whose work is selected for the 2015 Small Works on Paper exhibition will be notified in September 2015. The exhibition will open at the Batesville Area Arts Council gallery in January 2016.
