Arkansas Food Hall of Fame Seeks to Honor State “Taste-setters”

It’s no doubt that Arkansas food is packed with flavor. Cultural traditions mixed with fresh ideas and ingredients keep Arkansas food at the forefront of southern cuisine. The Department of Arkansas Heritage is proud to honor the unique foods, legendary restaurants, remarkable cooks, influential food entrepreneurs, and culturally significant festivals and events that live up to these high standards through its unveiling of the 2017 Arkansas Food Hall of Fame.

The Arkansas Food Hall of Fame, created and managed by the Department of Arkansas Heritage, is a statewide effort to recognize the “taste-setters” among us who provide Arkansans with the good ole southern treats that we have all come to love and cherish.

Each year The Arkansas Food Hall of Fame will induct three honorees. Admittance into the Arkansas Food Hall of Fame will be a triumphant recognition of those long-standing restaurants that have become legendary attractions and staples of the state. Other categories will include Proprietor of the Year, Food-Themed Event, and People’s Choice.

In order to be eligible all restaurants must be owned and operated in Arkansas. Public nominations are welcome and are currently being accepted through Nov. 9. Category winners will be honored at an event in spring of 2017.

Eligibility requirements for each category are as follows:

Arkansas Food Hall of Fame

This award recognizes those outstanding restaurants that have become legendary attractions in Arkansas and influence our tastes, our culture and our sense of community.

Restaurants must meet the following criteria:

  • Must be owned and operated in Arkansas
  • Must have been in business for 25 years or more
  • Must not be a chain restaurant

Proprietor of the Year

This award recognizes a chef, cook and/or restaurant owner in Arkansas who has made significant achievements in the food industry.

Candidates must meet the following criteria:

  • The candidate’s restaurant must be owned and operated in Arkansas.
  • The candidate’s restaurant must have in business for at least one year.
  • The candidate’s restaurant must not be a chain restaurant.

Food-Themed Events

In Arkansas, unique food festivals are abundant, often engaging the entire community. This award recognizes those events and festivals that give attendees a taste of Arkansas foods and our hospitality.

Festivals or events must meet the following criteria:

  • Must be an annual event
  • Must have been in existence for five years or more

People’s Choice

This award invites YOU to choose your favorite restaurant or food truck in Arkansas. After all, the motto of Arkansas is “The People Rule.”

Nominees must meet the following criteria:

  • Must be owned and operated in Arkansas
  • Must not be a chain restaurant
  • Must have in business for at least one year
