The Arkansas Women’s Suffrage Centennial Commemoration Committee invites all qualified speakers on the topics of such related history, political or social, to submit a brief proposal to join the Committee’s Speakers Bureau. Please include your specific topic of expertise or interest and your current place of employment.

Upcoming Events 

“Imagery and Irony: The Fight for Women's Suffrage Through the Political Cartoons of Nina Allender.” This exhibit is at the MacArthur Museum of Arkansas Military History will remain on display until December 2020. 


“Shall Not Be Denied! Celebrating 100 Years of Women’s Right to Vote” The UCA College of Fine Arts and Communication is hosting the following suffrage celebration activities commemorating the 100-year anniversary of the passage of the 19th Amendment. Public activities will take place on the UCA campus in Conway and at Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art in Bentonville, AR. Multidisciplinary activities will happen on and around two new site-specific public art installations located in UCA’s historic Alumni Circle:

Opening Reception and Unveiling of United: The Acorn Project (led by Liz Smith), CitiZINE Project (led by Lesley Graybeal and Kristen Spickard), and Suffrage Rugs (led by Sharon Louden), Alumni Circle, UCA. This is an in-person event with live streaming to Facebook.

Oct. 20, 6:30 pm and 7:30 pm
Suffrage Centennial Sing-Along (karaoke style) led by Jaimee Jensen-McDaniel, with Persona Poetry by Dr. Sandy Longhorn’s creative writing students and video projections by Sharon Louden, Alumni Circle. This is an in-person event with two 30-minute performances.

Oct. 22, 7 pm and 8:30 pm
Core Dance in “Nevertheless, She Persists,” public performance with spoken word by The Writeous Poets and “Transparent Fashions” by theatre student Jillian Gregory, Alumni Circle. This is an in-person event with two performances. Seating is limited.

Oct. 29-Nov. 6, On View: “Promoting Progress: Artists Advancing Woman Suffrage in World War One Poster Propaganda,” poster exhibit by FYS students in Dr. Kim Little’s America in the Modern Era course, Alumni Circle

Nov. 9, 6 pm, Virtual Performance and Q & A via Zoom (link to follow)
Nevertheless, She Persists by Core Dance with original score by Berlin-based composer Christian Meyer, recorded in the galleries at Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art, Bentonville and highlighting six works of art in the collection. Introduction by Sue Schroeder, Artistic Director of Core Dance, and Mindy Besaw, Crystal Bridges Curator, American Art and Director of Fellowships and Research. Following the viewing of the recorded performance, guests tuning in will have the opportunity for Q&A.

All events are free and open to the public. Social distancing will be strictly enforced at all live events. Masks are required.
